Taking family photos each year is something I strongly encourage clients to do, but here are the top 10 reasons why.
1) Capture the season that you're in

Your kiddos are always changing, growing, and learning something new. Each year brings a new, precious chapter or milestone. Those moments can easily pass us by unless we capture moments in time that help create memories to hold onto forever.
2) It's a good excuse to get your whole family together

Extended family sessions are one of my absolute favorite. Getting the whole family together to celebrate a big anniversary, update family photos, or give a gift to your parents are great reasons to schedule a photo shoot.
3) None of us is guaranteed tomorrow

This one hits close to home for me. My uncle was diagnosed with cancer in late Fall of 2024, and he had been asking me to do a photo session with him for a few months at that point. When Thanksgiving rolled around, we took some head shots of him and a few sibling photos. Little did we know that less than two months later, we'd be using many of them at his funeral. We were grateful to have updated photos of him as well as ones we knew he loved.
4) People change a lot in a year - capture those changes

The end of the school year, social media invites us to witness these changes. I recently saw a first day of school photo and last day of school photo of a friend's middle school son, and it made me realize that the maturing that can take place in a year is staggering. Photos help us notice and celebrate those changes.
5) Update the photos hanging on your walls

The walls of our homes are beautiful places to display memories and those most dear to us. Photo shoots are great opportunities to update the photos hanging on your walls.
6) Christmas Cards

Share with family and friends around the world beautiful photos of your family each year with an annual Christmas card. A professional photo shoot helps take the pressure off of using self timer, hoping everyone was looking at the same time.
7) Family Legacy

Give your family the gift of legacy by capturing all of you together each year. These moments create moments, memories, and tangible reminders of who you are as a family and what is most dear to you.
8) Document your Year

A lot can happen in a year - milestones, big moments, little moments, and everything in-between. Prioritize documenting the things you want to remember forever.
9) Have fun as a family

Laughter is a common element of family photo shoots! Have some fun together as a family while capturing those most genuine smiles that light up your faces!
10) Give your kids the gift of memories

Time is fleeting, but memories are deposits in our hearts that last forever. Give your kids the gift of memories both with photos and the experience of a photo shoot. You won't regret it.
If it's been a while since your last photo shoot, let's connect and find the best time for you and/or your family! I look forward to helping capture 2025 with you!
