When considering what type of session to book, when to book it, and who it should involve, there are a lot of considerations that go into the booking process.
One thing to consider is what is included in the photo session - what is most valuable to you as the client. As a photographer, I love every session, every photo captured, and every memory frozen in time. Although I love each type of session, there are a few things that set extended family sessions apart that make them one of my absolute favorites and that brings great value to you, the client.
You get various extended family photos at your session
You get individual family photos at each session - every individual family gets their own family photos so you don't need to book individual family sessions on top of this
You make memories as a whole family and no one has to take on the stress of being in charge... I get to organize you, help you all look your very best, and make it fun along the way
Your little ones (if you have them) aren't "on" the whole time - they get to take breaks to eat snacks, play with cousins, and goof around while other photos are being taken - and this keeps them fresh when it's their turn for photos
You get really (and I mean really) authentic smiles because grandma, grandpa, auntie, and their favorite cousin is there, too
We get to create a shot list of photos that are most important to you and make sure we squeeze everything we can out of our hour together
We get to capture memories with everyone, knowing that no one is guaranteed to be here next year or even tomorrow. You don't regret that you missed that photo with that special family member.
There’s also something truly special about capturing generations of love in a single frame — the quiet glances between grandparents, the chaotic joy of cousins playing, the proud smiles of parents seeing their family all together.
Extended family sessions aren't just about the photos; they're about preserving legacies, telling stories, and celebrating the beautiful, messy, vibrant tapestry that is family.
So the next time you're thinking about a session, don’t just bring your little crew — bring the whole gang. Because these are the moments that become heirlooms.
Let’s make magic together.
